Our mission/vision

Transformation through Quality Education

"Les amis de Hampaté Bâ” (Friends of Hampaté Bâ) is a non-profit association supporting an exceptional school that greatly changes the lives of boys and girls from modest backgrounds in Niamey, capital of Niger.

Low levels of learning achievement in Niger are mainly due to:

  • Socio-economic background.
  • French, the official language, not spoken at home.
  • Poorly trained teachers.
  • Lack of access to textbooks and books.
  • Overcrowded classrooms.
  • Lack of community support.
  • Inadequate physical infrastructure and material resource.

Collège Amadou Hampaté Bâ has decided to address some of these issues in a proactive manner and engage itself, its students and their families in a process of positive personal and collective transformation by promoting:

  • Quality learning.
  • Gender equality.
  • In-service professional development.
  • Character and capacity building courses.
  • Community outreach.

With its commitment to social justice, transformative education, and neighborhood revitalization, Hampaté Bâ school is in the process of forging a new middle school model. To support this process and to keep the momentum going, we need your help.

The school does not get any government assistance or subsidies whatsoever. It totally relies on the school fees families pay. Therefore donations are essential as they are used  to fill the gap between an institution that is simply running and offering a just okay schooling , and an establishment which is running properly with essential supplies and needs catered for, and where genuine learning takes place.
